When it is early in the morning, some others start on their skitours or take on their skis and boards for exciting hours on the ski hills of the region, you put on your snow shoes and hike out in the winter wonderland of the Hochkönig region. Within minutes you’ve reached untouched nature and beautiful paths throughout our valley. Most of the hiking trails and paths can be used in winter with snow shoes and hiking boots.
You would like to start easily and hike around some good paths in the valley - go and follow some of the many walkways and walking paths around the villages of Maria Alm and Hintermoos. Most of the trails and paths are shoveled in winter, so you can use them even without snow shoes. If you follow some of the tracks to more mountainous regions, maybe in direction of the “Marbach Höhe”, you might want to use snow shoes and make your own tracks. On your descent you will have at least so much fun, as you had skis on and you will feel like walking on clouds.
If you are interested in a real snow shoe adventure, you should approach the summit of the Hochkkönig with snow shoes. The highest peak of the region can be climbed with snow shoes, although this trip is not an easy one. The way from the Mitterfeldalm, over to the Torsäule and finally to the Matras house on top of the Hochkönig is long and exhausting and you might want to have some experience and power in order to have fun. In our region we have a huge variety of mountain guides, who will be happy to guide you to the summit. Ask the Miller family for information - the organization of mountain guides will not be a big problem.
